Pro skills indexed but not appearing after activation

2 min read

I shipped 4.15.0 to the package index and then published 4.15.1 an hour later. Activating a Pro license on a package install downloaded the Pro skills to disk but never indexed them. Activation reported success, the files were present, and the catalog still listed only the free skills.

The bug

Configuration loading has two exits. A development checkout takes one, every package install takes the other. Both decide whether to attach the Pro skill source. A fix in May corrected that question on one path and left the copy on the other untouched. The two disagreed for two and a half months.

A development checkout takes the branch that was already correct, so the bug was invisible in the repo. The clean-install verification step is the only check that exercises the other branch, and it caught this after publishing rather than before.

The fix

Fixing the gate alone would not have been enough. Configuration is resolved once at startup, before activation has written anything, so the reindex that follows an activation was rebuilding from the pre-activation source list and reporting a pre-activation count. Both halves were needed to make activation work without a restart.

I extracted the duplicated condition into a single shared predicate so the two paths cannot drift again, rather than pasting the corrected condition a second time. I also made activation re-resolve the cached configuration between the Pro download and the reindex.

The test

I added a regression test covering both configuration branches. Every case is parametrized over both and asserts they agree, so the test pins the invariant rather than one implementation. I confirmed it fails against the unfixed tree before wiring it in. Exactly the two cases that encode the bug failed, and the rest passed.

Verified

4.15.1 against a clean install: activation now reports the full catalog, indexes it in the same session, and the count survives a restart.
